SuperSport, a subsidiary of MultiChoice Group and part of CANAL+, has announced that it will broadcast all 104 matches of the expanded FIFA World Cup 2026 live across English- and Portuguese-speaking African markets, marking the most comprehensive coverage of the tournament ever offered on the continent.
For the first time, the entire tournament will be accessible across all DStv subscription packages, from Access to Premium, alongside coverage on GOtv.
The offering will include live matches, highlights, and repeat broadcasts, significantly widening access for football fans.
The 2026 edition of the global showpiece will also be the largest in history, expanding from 32 to 48 teams. It is scheduled to kick off in Mexico City on June 11, 2026, and conclude with the final in New Jersey on July 19, 2026, making it the longest-running World Cup tournament to date.
To unveil the масштаб of the coverage, SuperSport partnered with Idris Elba, who confirmed that all 104 matches will be available live to viewers on both DStv and GOtv platforms.
Africa is expected to have its strongest representation yet at the tournament, with 10 teams qualifying through the Confederation of African Football. The countries set to participate include Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
SuperSport says it will complement match broadcasts with new magazine shows, fresh on-air talent, and expert-led analysis featuring football voices from across Africa and beyond.
Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Director for Content and Sports in English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, said the broadcaster is committed to delivering a world-class viewing experience.
“We are thrilled to announce that our subscribers… will get to witness yet another historic FIFA World Cup on Your World of Champions, SuperSport,” he said.
He added that Africa’s increased representation makes the tournament particularly significant.
“With Africa sending its biggest-ever contingent… we are proud to bring Africans the biggest global sports showpiece in the SuperSport quality that they have become accustomed to. We are excited that more people will be able to watch the action through a DStv Access subscription package.”
Ramovha also revealed plans to localise coverage: “We are also looking forward to bringing our subscribers special broadcast features tailored to unique cultures and some local African languages.”
The broadcaster encouraged customers to access more information via its digital platforms, including the MyDStv app and MyGOtv app.
The tournament will be available in multiple African countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, among others.
With expanded teams, more matches, and broader access, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to deliver an unprecedented football spectacle to millions of viewers across Africa.
